Each year the Virginia Dare Cruises & Marina organizes The Annual Va Dare Flotilla for Toys Boat Parade. The Flotilla is led by the 19th Century Sidewheeler, Va Dare.
The evening parade and it’s dazzling light show cruises from the Va Dare Marina to Hales Ford Bridge, back down the Roanoke channel to the Smith Mountain Lake State Park and back to port.
All participants and spectators were asked to bring an unwrapped toy for the benefit of the Lake Christian Ministries for local children of need. In addition, 16 collection points were set up for area residents to drop off toys for the event.
The 2007 Flotilla For Toys Boat Parade was comprised of 25 decorated boats with 350 people aboard. Seventeen hundred (1700) toys were donated by participants, spectators and area residents -- a tremendous success.
