Every year it seems that we have to work harder and harder to keep up with the growing number of children in need. For the past three years the number of children increased by 150 children each year. If this trend continues were looking at over 850 children “A Child Christmas” Program will help. The Virginia Dare and Lake Christian Ministries can’t help these children without support from our Community. This year the Flotilla will again be floating down Smith Mountain Lake on Thanksgiving weekend, November 26th from 7pm to 9pm. Without your help this event may not continue, and we would lose a great way for our Community to come together to help the ones that need it the most. THE CHILDREN!!!

What is the Virginia Dare Flotilla for Toys Boat Parade of Lights??

Each year the Virginia Dare leads numerous Boats decorated with everything from thousands of lights to Santa himself from the Virginia Dare Marina. The Parade cruises to Halesford Bridge, Smith Mountain Lake State Park and then ends back at the Virginia Dare Marina. Each person riding on the Virginia Dare or on any Boat that participates is asked to bring at least one new unwrapped toy. Also we ask that any person that views the Parade from Halesford Bridge, the State Park, or anywhere along the Parade route bring at least one new unwrapped toy. Along the route of the Parade many people hold their annual Christmas parties and ask that instead of a hostess gift to please bring a new unwrapped toy to donate. We are very honored when many people tell us it doesn’t feel like Christmas until the Flotilla cruises by to ring in the Christmas season.

Who does the Virginia Dare Flotilla for Toys Boat Parade of Lights Help to Support??

The Flotilla for Toys helps support the Lake Christian Ministries “A Child’s Christmas” Program. The Lake Christian Ministries is a non-profit organization that provides food, clothing, household items and emergency financial aid to families in the Bedford, Franklin & Pittsylvania counties. “A Child’s Christmas” Program helps to provide children with cold weather clothing, shoes, coats and toys for Christmas gifts that they probably wouldn’t get if it wasn’t for the Lake Christian Ministries, The Flotilla for Toys and “ALL” the people in the community.

Why we Need Sponsorship??

With the economy being as it is, Virginia Dare Cruises & Marina being a seasonal business, the increasing costs and Lake Christian Ministries having a large increase in the number of families in need, we have found that were unable to continue to bare the overwhelming strain alone. However with the help of our Community hundreds of Children could have a brighter Christmas, how can we as a Community afford not to help!!

We have put together Sponsorship Levels hoping that everyone can find one to fit their budget. New this year we are offering a Food Sponsorship Level with the theme ”A Taste of Christmas at Smith Mountain Lake. Please remember that we can’t keep the Flotilla Floating without your help. If you can’t be a sponsor we’ll be happy to accept Gift Certificates, High Value Coupons or Merchandise to raffle off the night of the Parade to help our local Children in need have a brighter Christmas.
